3MAW: Avery Johnson announces return
John Kurtz, Cole Manbeck, and Derek Young break down the latest coaching staff hires, what they mean for the Wildcats, Avery Johnson's return, and its significance.
Despite the chaos of the transfer portal, Kansas State’s starting quarterback, Avery Johnson, recently announced he will return for his senior season.
The home-state product out of Wichita, Kansas, completed 59 percent of his passes, throwing for 2,385 yards, 18 touchdowns, and six interceptions. As a junior, he did tack on 477 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground as well.
As a team, the Wildcats are coming off a disappointing 6-6 season after entering with high expectations. With Chris Kleiman retiring, and former K-State quarterback and Texas A&M offensive coordinator Collin Klein taking over, Johnson valued having unfinished business in his return for his final collegiate season.
Johnson’s return signals stability in what will be a year of transition. The guys talk about that and much more, including updates to the coaching staff, transfer portal additions and subtractions.
