Are the Chiefs an Offense-Heavy Team Again?
The Chiefs might have to lean on one side of the ball more again than last year
The Kansas City Chiefs have been reigning Super Bowl Champions for 654 days (as of this posting). Players like Trent McDuffie, George Karlaftis, and Isiah Pacheco know nothing less then finishing their season in February with a parade.
Standards are understandably high for a team in pursuit of a threepeat, both in and out of the building. There was disappointment from fans and seemingly from the team after a narrow victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Expectations (both by observers and by Vegas) anticipated a comfortable win for the Chiefs, but they needed a closing drive by the offense — and their best players — to take care of business on the road.
The defense is continuing to find their footing with the absence of Jaylen Watson — a player that is proving to be difficult to replace. They surrendered 27 points and put it back on the offense to win the game.
Where in recent years the Chiefs have played a complimentary brand of football that has leaned on the defense to get stops in key situations, the pendulum might be shifting more to needing the offense to carry a big load like they have in other years of this dynasty.
