Chiefs agree to terms with Eric Bieniemy as OC: reports
Bieniemy set to return for second tour of duty
Kansas City apparently found its next offensive coordinator and he’s a familiar face.
The Chiefs on Wednesday evening agreed to a deal with Eric Bieniemy to become the next offensive coordinator, according to multiple reports.
The NFL Network first reported the news.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed, and the Chiefs have not announced the deal.
The reports of an agreed upon deal arrive two days after the Chiefs requested permission from the Chicago Bears to interview Bieniemy, who is set to replace Matt Nagy.
Bieniemy’s reported return marks his second tour of duty with the Chiefs.
He originally joined coach Andy Reid’s staff in 2013 as a running backs coach before assuming the offensive coordinator position, which he held from 2018 to 2022.
Bieniemy, 56, served as the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders in 2023 before spending the 2024 football season as the offensive coordinator for UCLA.
Whether Bieniemy will call plays in 2026 remains to be seen.
He previously had some input on play calls, but Reid was the primary play caller even with Bieniemy on the staff.
Nevertheless, Bieniemy’s presence should help energize the Chiefs’ run game, which has struggled in recent seasons.
Bieniemy, a former college and NFL running back, spent the 2025 season as the running backs coach for the Chicago Bears, and he mentored D’Andre Swift to a 1,000-yard rushing season.
Bieniemy also served as a running backs coach with the Minnesota Vikings (2006-10), where he coached future Pro Football Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson.
The Chiefs haven’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since Kareem Hunt posted 1,327 yards on the ground in 2017.
