Chiefs bring back Charles Omenihu: reports
The Chiefs made a couple of moves in recent days on the defensive line
The Chiefs made a move Thursday night by bringing back another familiar face for a second tour of duty.
Defensive end Charles Omenihu has returned on a one-year deal, according to multiple reports. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Omenihu, who turns 28 in August, first joined the Chiefs in 2023 on a two-year deal. He’s appeared in 17 games with two starts for the Chiefs over the past two seasons, totaling 34 tackles (22 solo), eight sacks and 12 quarterback hits.
His return provides veteran depth on the edge behind George Karlaftis, Mike Danna, Felix Anudike-Uzomah and Malik Herring.
The 6-foot-5, 280-pound Omenihu originally entered the NFL in 2019 out of Texas as a fifth-round pick with the Houston Texans. He was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 2021, where he spent two seasons before originally signing with the Chiefs in 2023.
Omenihu has appeared in 78 career games with 12 starts, producing 101 tackles (62 solo), 19.5 sacks and 53 quarterback hits.
In other defensive line news, the Chiefs on Wednesday also re-signed Marlon Tuipulotu, his agents told the NFL Network.
Tuipulotu appeared in two games for the Chiefs last season, recording four total tackles, including one for a loss.
The one-year signings of Omenihu and Tuipulotu shouldn’t signal that Kansas City is finished with the defensive line. The Chiefs are likely to bolster the position group, especially along the interior positions, in the upcoming NFL draft.
