Reality has sunk in at One Arrowhead Drive.

For the first time since 2014, the Chiefs enter the final game of the regular season knowing there won’t be a postseason and a chance at making a run to the Super Bowl.

While it comes after a decade of success, which includes three championships, not appearing in the playoffs brings about an unusual feeling.

“It is weird,” center Creed Humphrey said. “In my five years now, every single other year we’ve been at least in the AFC Championship, so it definitely feels different.”

And for a team accustomed to playing into late January/early February, the situation could serve as a lingering wake-up call of sorts during the offseason months.

“I want to keep that a strange feeling,” coach Andy Reid said. “You don’t like ending right now, obviously, but that’s what it is. Then you got to go back and fix things and make sure they’re right.”
