Chiefs Free Agents
The Super Bowl is behind us. The Chiefs reached further than any other in their quest for a threepeat, but ultimately failed in the end. It’s time to set our eyes on the future. As Bill Belichick might say, we’re on to the offseason.
As has become the norm, the Chiefs have the shortest offseason in the NFL. More than half the league began their offseason on Monday, January 6th, following the final game of the season. The Chiefs offseason started more than a month later, on Monday, February 10th.
The Chiefs have a great deal of work to do in order to replenish the possible departing talent on this team, and not a great deal of cap available to do so. They have 28 total free agents, 20 of which are unrestricted free agents (UFA). 5 players are restricted free agents (RFA), or players who have been in the league 3 years and have expiring contracts. 3 players are exclusive rights free agents (ERFA), or players who have been in the league less than 3 years and have expiring contracts.
This shows all the Chiefs free agents, excluding special teams players, which I didn’t have room for on this graphic. Just note that punter Matt Araiza (ERFA) and long snapper James Winchester (UFA) are both free agents. I’ve split them by offense and defense, and arranged them by the percentage of team snaps they played.
