Chiefs' Rashee Rice to accept six-game suspension: reports
Rice will be eligible to return in Week 7
The Chiefs are set to be without their top wide receiver to start the regular season.
Rashee Rice will accept a six-game suspension, according to multiple reports.
The NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports the NFL and NFLPA are working to finalize the suspension.
Rice won’t be eligible to return to the active roster until Week 7 when the Chiefs host the Las Vegas Raiders.
The suspension stems from Rice’s involvement in a 2024 multi-vehicle crash incident in Texas, an event that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced in July to 30 days in jail and five years’ probation for his involvement.
The Chiefs appeared to prepare for Rice’s suspension by keeping eight wide receivers, including Rice, on the initial 53-player roster during roster cuts.
Without Rice, the Chiefs will rely on Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, Xavier Worthy, Tyquan Thornton, rookie Jalen Royals, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Nikko Remigio and Jason Brownlee.
Rice has appeared in 20 games with 12 starts over the past two seasons, totaling 103 catches for 1,226 yards and nine touchdowns. He played just four games last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
The Chiefs originally selected Rice in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
