The Chiefs returned to the practice field on Wednesday, continuing their preparation for the Week 1 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. All 52 players on the roster and 16 players on the practice squad were present and accounted for during practice. That includes WR JuJu Smith-Schuster who missed the last two preseason games due to a knee injury.
“The knee is great,” Smith-Schuster told reporters on Wednesday. “Just a couple of minor issues. I’ve been playing the game for six years. I’m not the young JuJu you know anymore. I’m getting older, I’m more of an adult and it takes time. It’s fully healed and I can’t wait to play.”
Meanwhile, out in Glendale, Arizona the Cardinals are dealing with a host of injuries. Despite the injury concerns, don’t expect the Chiefs to get caught looking ahead. They’re locked in and focused on the task at hand in Week 1.
“We look forward to the challenge of playing (the Arizona Cardinals),” Chiefs HC Andy Reid said. “We know they’re a good football team. They started off undefeated for the first seven games I believe, last year. They start fast and they’ve got a heck of an offense and defense and coaches and special teams. They’re rock solid. We’ve got to make sure that we prepare. Early in the season, there is not a whole lot of scouting report other than the year before apart from the little bit that they show in the preseason games. So you really have to stay disciplined with what you do and execute on both sides of the ball.”

Stat of the Week:
One On One:
Watch former Chiefs OL Jeff Allen and DT Mike DeVito talk about their time in the NFL and how it differed from their time in college. Later, the guys discuss how they prepared for a Week 1 matchup on the road.
Quotable:
“Well, we talk all the way through about just the speed of the game. Every phase we’ve had in the offseason is a little faster than the phase before. That is the same thing with the preseason games as opposed to the regular season game. This is going to be fast. It’s going to be loud and you’ve got to be able to block things out and focus. And you’ve got to be able to do it for four quarters. The experience will help them as far as they can prepare, they’ve worked on that.” - Chiefs HC Andy Reid’s message to young players heading into the season
I think you should be motivated every year. In this league, everybody starts at zero. Everybody has a chance to go out there and win the Super Bowl. If you don’t have that motivation every single year to win the AFC West to win the AFC and then to win the Super Bowl, you’re in the wrong profession. I think we have the guys in here that are excited about it. They’re excited about to go out there and have the chance to win every week. But it all starts in Week 1 against a great football team in the Arizona Cardinals. We’re excited for the opportunity to go out there and show who we are. - Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on whether the offseason provided any extra motivation
