The Chiefs will be changing some things up at practice for the remainder of the season. Andy Reid confirmed on Wednesday that the team would switch to their midseason practice format, which is catered toward lighter 10-10-10 practices at the start of the practice week, ensuring health and longevity for the final nine games of the regular season.
"Yeah, so we're using our midseason practices,” Reid said. “So today is a lighter day. So, they get to recover a little bit. That will help them, but we just started that. It just so happened to fall on a game where you had 100 snaps.”
It’s a happy coincidence that this switch comes following a game where the offense played a ton of snaps.
While the team is changing its approach to practice, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes won’t be changing his. Mahomes threw nearly 70 passes on Sunday night, but he says that he doesn’t really need to do anything different to help his arm recover from such an outing.
“I don’t. Ever since I’ve been young, I haven’t really got sore even when I pitched (in baseball) when I was younger,” Mahomes said. “So, usually just the normal stuff. We do different stuff that I do with my trainers and stuff like that, but other than that, I just try to keep that arm strength up and keep rolling.”
Whatever the case, it seems the Chiefs are being diligent as they work to manage any lingering fatigue from the season.

Quotable:
“Yeah – I mean going out the first game is always pretty frustrating and pretty disheartening because you have all these goals, and you have this plan that you set in place, and it doesn’t go that way. But I was able to kind of just take a step back, work really well with the trainers, work really well with the coaches and kind of set this system where it was almost like I was going to play every week but then just sit out the game. So, I kind of kept the system of ‘let’s just keep this going’ so when I did come back it wasn’t anything short of what I was already doing. Just creating a system and just being able to stick to that (and) staying disciplined was the biggest thing for me to be able to come back the way that I am now.” - Trent McDuffie on suffering an early-season injury
“He’s so gifted as a pass rusher, but also he’s athletic enough to drop into coverage and you don’t see a lot of guys like that. He’s obviously a big physical guy but he’s fast. He does a good job with his hands and getting off blocks. They kind of have guys like that on both sides of the ball with (Jaguars OLB Travon) Walker there now as well. It’ll be a great challenge for our guys to have and that whole entire defensive line. It seems like week in and week out we’re playing a great defensive line so our offensive line is battling. I thought they did a great job this last week and I think we can hopefully carry that momentum into this next week.” - Patrick Mahomes on Jaguars OLB Josh Allen
Quick Hits:
From Las Vegas: The court case involving Saints RB Alvin Kamara and Chiefs CB Chris Lammons has once again been delayed. The latest hearing has been pushed back to Jan. 23 of 2023, making it highly unlikely either player will be suspended during the 2022 NFL season.

From the Kelce Brothers: On the latest episode of the New Heights Show, Travis and Jason Kelce both revealed they hate playing on turf and prefer natural grass. The NFL maintains there is no evidence to suggest more injuries occur on turf surfaces as opposed to natural grass.

From 87 & Running: Chiefs TE Travis Kelce’s foundation has made a charitable donation to his alma mater, launching an endowment to fund a Sports Psychology and Counseling Department for the University of Cincinnati.
