Chiefs trade WR Skyy Moore to 49ers, source confirms
Moore, the Chiefs' second-round pick in 2022, never panned out in Kansas City
Wide receiver Skyy Moore’s time in Kansas City has come to an end.
The Chiefs on Wednesday evening traded Moore to the San Francisco 49ers, a source familiar with the situation confirmed with KC Sports Network.
The deal includes the Chiefs and 49ers swapping their respective 2027 sixth- and seventh-round picks, the source confirmed.
Moore’s trade comes almost a week after he returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown in the Chiefs’ preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks.
“He’s definitely an NFL player, whether he’s on our team or not on our team,” Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub said Tuesday. “I think the return helped him. He’s a good football player.”
Toub’s comments proved true, as the return proved a bright spot this summer for Moore, who appeared to slide down the wide receiver depth chart during training camp.
Moore was often behind Rashee Rice, Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster, rookie Jalen Royals, Tyquan Thornton and Nikko Remigio during team drills.
And instead of consistently drawing repetitions with the first-team offense, Moore was often observed working with the second- or third-team offenses.
Moore now receives a fresh start in his contract year.
The Chiefs selected Moore in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
While there was plenty of excitement over Moore’s selection, he never panned out in the Chiefs’ offense.
Moore appeared in 36 games with 11 starts during his time in Kansas City, totaling 43 catches for 494 yards and one touchdown on 74 targets. He added 14 punt returns for 86 yards and five kickoff returns for 93 yards.
He also appeared in three postseason games, totaling five catches for 17 yards and a touchdown, which came in Super Bowl LVII.
