Defensive film breakdown:
KCSN’s Craig Stout joins former Chiefs All-Pro Linebacker Derrick Johnson and former Chiefs defensive lineman Mike DeVito to break down the defensive film from the Chiefs’ win over the Los Angeles Chargers last Thursday and point out some of the key players, including Willie Gay Jr., Chris Jones, George Karlaftis and many more!
Players to watch in Week 3:
LB Darius Harris: All eyes will be on Harris this weekend as he fills in for suspended LB Willie Gay Jr., who will be out for the next four weeks. A big part of Gay Jr.’s role is pass coverage and Harris hasn’t been the best in that regard during his career. According to Pro Football Focus, he’s allowed nine receptions on 11 targets in his career, totaling 115 yards surrendered and two touchdowns. It could be a long day for Harris against a team that likes to throw the ball to their running backs.
CB Rashad Fenton: Fenton has been the weak link in the secondary through two games for the Chiefs. According to Pro Football Focus, he’s allowed seven receptions on nine targets for 110 yards, which is good for a 117.6 passer rating in his coverage. The Colts are getting their WR1, Michael Pittman Jr., back in the lineup this week. They’re also getting standout rookie WR Alec Pierce back from a concussion. Indianapolis could look to pick on Fenton this week if his play doesn’t improve.
TE Travis Kelce: Kelce has been the Chiefs’ not-so-secret weapon against the Colts during the course of his career. As we mentioned earlier this week, Kelce has three career appearances against the Colts (incl. playoffs). He recorded 18 receptions for 279 yards and a touchdown during those games. Indy has surrendered 12 receptions for 114 yards and two touchdowns to tight ends already this season.
QB Patrick Mahomes: Your eyes should always be on Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, but he’s playing in a dome this week. In seven career appearances in stadiums with a dome, Mahomes has never lost. During those games, he has thrown for over 2,000 yards, 20 touchdowns and just two interceptions while completing over 65% of his passes. It’s also worth noting that the Colts’ defensive coordinator is Gus Bradley. Mahomes put 82 points up against Bradley’s defense in two games with the Raiders last season. This has all the makings of a big game for Mahomes.
Sometimes Weekly:
KCSN’s BJ Kissel sits down with former Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers long snapper Kendall Gammon to talk about his career in the NFL and what he's doing now.
Quotable:
“It’s still swollen a bit. He’s making progress, he’s working on his swing now. But you know it was a pretty good sprain, (the ankle) swelled up on him and you know getting all that (swelling) out of there is going to take a minute. Hopefully he’s ready to go next week. But listen the kid, (Matt) Ammendola, he’s doing a great job.” - Andy Reid on Harrison Butker’s ankle injury
“Yeah, when you talk about the Colts, I think you have to bring up their running back (Colts RB Jonathan Taylor) first. Really both of their backs (Jonathan Taylor and Colts RB Nyheim Hines). They have two talented backs. We’ve watched some tape, and that’s where it all starts with them. It starts with their run game, and for us, it’s all about stopping that and then getting to third down and stopping their passing attack. We’re really focused on stopping the run and then getting the quarterback. We have little packages and little things that we will be able to do when the time comes, but it all starts with stopping the run.” - Chiefs rookie DE George Karlaftis on the Colts
Quick hits:
From Chiefs PR: Chiefs Kingdom raised over $940K for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City via Red Friday flag sales and the team’s 50/50 raffle at the home opener.

From the Podium: Chiefs HC Andy Reid was asked whether second-year DE Joshua Kaindoh would be the next man up in light of Mike Danna’s calf injury. Reid bluntly said that he wasn’t and suggested that second-year DE Malik Herring would be active and would get some snaps against the Colts in Week 3.
