Chiefs' Xavier Worthy, Jalen Royals to practice Wednesday
Worthy missed Week 2, while Royals has yet to play this regular season
The Chiefs appear on track to get healthier at the wide receiver position.
Coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Xavier Worthy (shoulder) and rookie Jalen Royals (knee) will be on the practice field in some capacity.
Worthy, who didn’t play in Week 2’s loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, practiced twice last week in a limited fashion, while Royals missed all three days of on-field work before being ruled out.
But the duo’s presence on the practice field on the first day of game preparation ahead of Sunday night’s game against the New York Giants represents a positive step.
Reid said there would be no limitations on Worthy, but he appeared cautiously optimistic on Royals, who missed Weeks 1-2.
“We’ll just see how he does here,” Reid said about Royals. “He’s been out for a while, so I’d like to see how he moves around now.”
Another positive indicator that the Chiefs could be expecting to have either Worthy or Royals available in Week 3 is the release of Hal Presley from the practice squad. Presley, who spent time with the Chiefs during training camp, signed last week to bolster depth at the wide receiver position.
Meanwhile, defensive end Mike Danna (hip) and cornerback Kristian Fulton (ankle) will not practice Wednesday, Reid said.
Danna and Fulton suffered their respective injuries early in Week 2’s loss to the Eagles and did not finish the game.
