Dad Bod Heroics: Mahomes Plays That Kill a Dumb Narrative

We are smack dab in the middle of the worst two months on the NFL calendar. June and July tend to be the time where the takes get as hot as the summer sun. Constant attempts to drum up criticism, shake up rankings, and look for ways to discuss the great demise of the Kansas City Chiefs — a team with back-to-back-to-back AFC Championship and Super Bowl appearances, a 15-1 record with their starters in 2024, and a team that returns nearly every key piece of their team.

So the team that came the closest to threepeating in NFL history — and their All-World Quarterback Patrick Mahomes — are subject to additional scrutiny. The narratives are flying with quarterback rankings knocking him off the top of the list, and discussion around the deep ball. The cake was taken, however when Kevin Kietzman decided to call Patrick Mahomes “fat” and “an embarrassment” over photos of him celebrating Fourth of July weekend.

This isn’t the first time Mahomes has been subjected to the “dad bod” narrative in 2025. After winning that third straight AFC Championship, Mahomes was caught shirtless celebrating another victory over the Buffalo Bills in January.

I’m not Matt Lane when it comes to studying physique, but Mahomes in that video certainly looks…about like he did on that boat last week. And he presumably had the same physique for the entirety of the season.

Mahomes sees the criticism about everything. He’d like the football to do the talking.

In that same spirit, I’d like to let the 2024 Mahomes tape show the effects of the “dad bod” on the field. Here are five plays of Mahomes being far a fat embarrassment. And dare I say, one of the best athletes on the planet.
