Things are on the up and up in Kansas City.
The Chiefs have righted the ship and look like the best team in the NFL. They are on a heater, winning three straight games, and are favored to walk into Buffalo — still their biggest challenger in the AFC — and beat the Bills on their home turf.
The offense is starting to take shape with Rashee Rice back in the fold, and the defense has given up seven points total over the last two games.
That doesn’t mean that GM Brett Veach doesn’t have his eye on opportunities to make this version of his team better. He and his staff are always examining options to see how they can best position the organization for another run at a Super Bowl.
While things are looking good, there are positions that could be addressed. Defensively, the pass rush needs more help, especially in the wake of the loss of defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott. The expected return of Mike Pennel could at least support the interior. Offensively, one spot might have increased its significance with news that running back Isiah Pacheco will be week-to-week with an MCL sprain.
We are less than a week away from the NFL’s trade deadline, and moves are already being made across the board. Here are five players that could be interesting targets for the Chiefs before Tuesday’s deadline, and what they might cost.
Running Back Breece Hall, New York Jets
Why he makes sense: It’s not just because Hall is from Wichita, KS.
The former Iowa State Cyclone has all the makings of a bell-cow back — a player that can execute at a high level on all three downs. He’s been just that for the Jets in his time there. He’s a big, dynamic player who averages 5 yards per carry on the ground to go with 21 catches on the season.
Hall’s contract is manageable from a salary cap perspective with less than $2 million due over the remainder of his rookie deal.
Cost to acquire: It’s worth noting that Hall will be a free agent in 2026 — perhaps the best free agent in the class — and could garner a quality compensatory selection that could help offset some of the capital surrendered to acquire him.
There are two sides to that coin, however, and the Jets know that as well.
I could see the Chiefs’ fourth-round selection being enough to get the deal done, but I may have to get creative if another team is willing to give up a fourth as well. Other teams will always have the tie-breaker over the original picks for the Chiefs.
