A 6-11 season and six-game losing streak earned the Chiefs their best draft position in over a decade

The Chiefs’ 2025 NFL season is officially over.

Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL on a drive that would have tied or put the Chiefs ahead of the Chargers in week 15. The Chiefs ended up losing that game on a Minshew interception. They would not win another game the rest of the season, whether it was Minshew under center, Oladokun, or even Shane Buchele. They ended the season with a six-game losing streak and lost 8 of their final nine games.

The season was already in trouble before Mahomes went down. The Chiefs were 6-7 heading into that Chargers game, and a loss would eliminate them from playoff contention. They were down three points late, needing a game-tying or go-ahead drive just to keep their postseason hopes alive. At home. Against a division rival. With their franchise quarterback healthy and on the field. That’s not the position a contending team finds itself in during Week 15. The Mahomes injury didn’t derail a playoff-bound team; it finished off a season that was already slipping away.
