Here's a snapshot of Chiefs' 2025 regular-season schedule
Chiefs will be featured in seven primetime matchups
The NFL’s annual drawn-out process of an announcement to the announcement to the announcement when it comes to the schedule release is finally official.
And the Chiefs on Wednesday evening found out the dates and times for game days.
At first glance – and depending on perspective, of course – the NFL’s schedule makers might not have done the Chiefs a favor by slating not one, but two holiday games on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The Chiefs also have a total of seven primetime games, which is expected given the presence of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is arguably the face of the league.
Conversely, the NFL took care of the Chiefs with four noon games.
Below is an overview of the Chiefs’ schedule, with opponents’ 2024 record in parentheses. Kickoffs are annotated in Central Standard Time.
• WEEK 1: Chiefs @ Los Angeles Chargers (11-6), Brazil, Friday at 7 p.m.
The Chiefs get the first international game of the 2025 season as a visitor against the Chargers, a team the Chiefs have defeated in seven straight games dating back to the 2021 season.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: Mahomes can get off to a fast start for the season facing off against a team he typically does well against. In 12 career games against the Chargers, Mahomes has thrown 27 touchdown passes against just eight interceptions.
• WEEK 2: Philadelphia Eagles (14-3) @ Chiefs, 3:25 p.m.
This early showdown is a rematch of last season’s Super Bowl, which saw the Eagles manhandle the Chiefs on offense and defense en route to a convincing 40-22 win.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: The Chiefs’ new-look left side of the offensive line commands early attention and will be put to the test against the Eagles’ pass rush. The Chiefs must also refocus on stopping running back Saquon Barkley. This time around, though, the Chiefs need to remember to defend everyone else.
• WEEK 3: Chiefs @ New York Giants (3-14), Sunday Night Football
Who starts under center for the Giants remains unknown at this point, but the Chiefs will get their pick between veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Then again, the Giants also have their 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart to consider.
Either way, this game doesn’t project as pretty either for the Giants or the national audience.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: Chiefs cornerbacks against Giants second-year wide receiver Malik Nabors, who recorded 109 catches for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns last season despite the quarterback play.
• WEEK 4: Baltimore Ravens (12-5) @ Chiefs, 3:25 p.m.
Since Mahomes took over as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback in 2018, the Chiefs are 5-1, including the postseason, against the Lamar Jackson-led Ravens.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: The hype on this game will obviously fall on Mahomes and Jackson. The Chiefs’ run defense, however, must account for running back Derrick Henry, who averages 98.6 yards in five career games against the Chiefs.
• WEEK 5: Chiefs @ Jacksonville Jaguars (4-13), Monday Night Football
The Jaguars enter another season with a new head coach and this is a game the Chiefs can’t afford to come out sluggish when considering their next few games.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: In a game the Chiefs should easily win, the visitors shouldn’t need to contend with the Florida heat because it’s a night game. But if there’s an area to look out for, it’s Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
• WEEK 6: Detroit Lions (15-2) @ Chiefs, Sunday Night Football
These aren’t the same old Lions in recent years and Detroit has emerged as an NFL power team under head coach Dan Campbell.
The Chiefs and Lions have played close games in recent meetings, with the Chiefs securing a 34-30 win in 2019 and the Lions grabbing a 21-20 victory at Arrowhead Stadium in 2023.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: Chiefs’ secondary against Lions standout wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, both of whom recorded 1,000-yard receiving campaigns in 2024.
• WEEK 7: Las Vegas Raiders (4-13) @ Chiefs, 12 p.m.
Here’s the first of three noon starts for the Chiefs.
The Chiefs are 12-2 against the Raiders since the 2018 season and now face a team with yet another new head coach, this time with Pete Carroll.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: Wherever Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby lines up, whoever is responsible for blocking him needs to step up. Crosby is one of the NFL’s game wreckers.
• WEEK 8: Washington Commanders (12-5) @ Chiefs, Monday Night Football
The Commanders surprised last season with then-rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who led Washington the NFC Championship Game.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: Daniels is a handful, and he can hurt a defense with his arm and legs. The Chiefs defense must be on point here and they can use this matchup as a tune-up when considering what’s next.
• WEEK 9: Chiefs @ Buffalo Bills (13-4), 3:25 p.m.
The Bills have the Chiefs’ number during the regular season in recent years, winning four straight games dating back to 2021.
But the postseason when it really matters shows another story with the Chiefs topping their AFC rival three straight times.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: It doesn’t get better than watching two of the NFL’s top signal-callers go at it. Mahomes-Josh Allen is always a must-watch showdown.
• WEEK 10: BYE
• WEEK 11: Chiefs @ Denver Broncos (10-7), 3:25 p.m.
These two divisional rivals split the annual series last season, and Broncos coach Sean Payton is building a solid team.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: Who doesn’t want to watch Mahomes and his receivers go at it against the Broncos’ stout pass defense, which is anchored by 2024 Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain II? This matchup is pure football bliss.
• WEEK 12: Indianapolis Colts (8-9) @ Chiefs, 12 p.m.
The Colts are still waiting for quarterback Anthony Richardson to arrive, but it might be Daniel Jones under center.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: Regardless of what happens to the Colts’ quarterback situation, the Chiefs will need to keep an eye on running back Jonathan Taylor, who notched his third career 1,000-yard rushing campaign last season.
• WEEK 13: Chiefs @ Dallas Cowboys (7-10), 3:30 p.m.
It’s a Turkey Day showdown on the road against the Cowboys, and obviously a short week for the Chiefs coming off a game against the Colts.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: The Cowboys are once again a team in transition under a new head coach. But the team still has quarterback Dak Prescott and the TV cameras are sure to follow his every move against one of the NFL’s top defenses from 2024.
• WEEK 14: Houston Texans (10-7) @ Chiefs, Sunday Night Football
Many could argue the Chiefs were fortunate to escape the Texans during last season’s playoffs, and this rematch projects to be a good one.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: The Texans have one of the NFL’s top young quarterbacks in C.J. Stroud, and the Chiefs must stay alert when Stroud drops back to pass.
• WEEK 15: Chargers @ Chiefs, 12 p.m.
This is the rubber match to end the annual two-game divisional series.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: Mahomes will look to continue his success against the Chargers.
• WEEK 16: Chiefs @ Tennessee Titans (3-14), 12 p.m.
It’s been a tough sledding for the Titans the past three seasons, a span where Tennessee posted a 16-35 record. The Titans also brought in a new general manager in Mike Borgonzi, who spent years in the Chiefs organization.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: The Titans spent the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on quarterback Cam Ward. Will he be under center to start the season? If so, the Chiefs will present a test.
• WEEK 17: Broncos @ Chiefs, Thursday Night Football
This is the rubber match to end the annual two-game divisional series.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: If last year’s meetings between these two teams provided a hint, look for another tough contest.
• WEEK 18: Chiefs @ Raiders, Time TBD
This matchup could see the Chiefs on cruise control for the postseason and with nothing to play for, except maybe seeding considerations.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: If the Chiefs haven’t clinched the top seed in the postseason, look for all the starters to play here.
How do you not put dates in a schedule?
