Is Geron Christian the Chiefs' future swing tackle? | KCSN Daily 8.8
News and more from the latest Chiefs training camp practice
Welcome back for another edition of KCSN Daily where we deliver you the best Kansas City Chiefs content directly to your inbox every day.
After a pair of regular practice sessions over the weekend, the Chiefs participated in one of Andy Reid’s patented 10-10-10 practices on Monday. The team will only practice three times this week ahead of the preseason opener against the Chicago Bears on Saturday, so it makes sense to start the week off with a lighter practice before ramping things up ahead of the game. These practices cycle through 10 plays of 11-on-11 on offense, defense and special teams until the conclusion of practice. This particular session had about 80 combined plays through all phases of the game.
Over the past two practices, OT Geron Christian has worked with the first-team offensive line. Eric Bieniemy noted on Sunday that the team is trying to get looks at players in specific situations. The former third-round pick by Washington rotated with Andrew Wylie at right tackle again on Monday, but he also had some snaps at first-team left tackle as well. It’s beginning to look like the Chiefs envision the 25-year-old Christian as the team’s swing tackle.

Quotable:
“Yeah, I invited him out to practice when he was done with his coaching and I had called him and talked to him before I took the Philly job and you know he just said ‘Listen, it’s a great organization, great people. It’s tough but it’s a great place to be. And if you can coach there and you make it through, you’re doing OK.’ But he was, he lived there, that was kind of his home base even though he was still working here and finishing up with the Rams. He did the same thing when I came here, exact same thing. He talked to me about the atmosphere here and said what bad guys you are (laughter), no. He coached me up on it. That’s priceless, right? That’s priceless. He checks in all the time. I mean if it’s not once a week, it’s pretty close to once a week, and (he) just makes sure everything is going alright. He loves the game and that whole deal. I appreciate all that.” - Chiefs HC Andy Reid on his relationship with Dick Vermeil
“Just being gritty man, being gritty. I think we left a lot of opportunities last year, our last game of the season, on the field. We were able to make a few changes in the defensive line room, bring my brother (Frank Clark) back and a lot of familiar faces back. I think this year, it’s about being gritty. Stopping the run, stopping the pass and doing whatever we can to help this defense out.” - Chiefs DT Chris Jones on the identity of the defensive line
