Wrapping up the Game Wrecker Quotient after the 2023 regular season

Midway through the 2023 NFL season, I created a new metric to track how often defenses allow singular players to “wreck” the game, and compared it to how often they play against the Top 10 players in the league. It was called the Game Wrecker Quotient, or GWQ for short. For those who didn’t read it (or click the link to the article just now), I kept track of every single 300 yard passing game, 100 yard rushing game, and 100 yard receiving game against individual defenses. I then took how often each team played one of the Top 10 players in yards in passing/rushing/receiving, and voila: the Game Wrecker Quotient!

In the first article, the Chiefs were near the top of the rankings, and I was looking forward to this moment: seeing how they performed at season’s end. So today, we’ll take a look at how the Chiefs defense finished, where they compared to season averages, and even dive into where some of the playoff teams sifted out for comparison as the postseason goes along!
