Nine lies we bought into & can they hold up in LIX?
There's been a ton of talking points about the 15-2 Chiefs that are attempting a three-peat. Their ability to flip a switch has made them hard to evaluate. Here's nine narratives that could be false.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been so good, that it has been a difficult team to cover or even watch as a fan during the regular season, at least in terms of evaluating. The regular season does not even start for this team until January. Shoot, this year it did not seem like it started for them until the AFC Championship Game. It was the first time they put up 30, after all.
It is easy to fire off takes throughout the 18-week regular season because they were not a finished product, so the holes became obvious. It appears that head coach Andy Reid designed it that way, so his team is peaking when it matters most. Just as much as that matters against the Bills, it will matter against the Philadelphia Eagles, who are uber-talented.
After a disappointing 2023, while they were rebounding from the Super Bowl 57 loss to the Chiefs, Philadelphia somewhat flew under the radar while being fairly dominant in their quest to appear in Super Bowl 59. They boast PFF’s number one-rated defense and the number seven-rated offense, good for their number one-rated team overall. If you look at their depth chart you will likely recognize more players than any other team that is not the Chiefs. They are absolutely loaded with talent acquired through the draft, free agency and trades.
The Chiefs will have their hands full, although they do have the superior quarterback, head coach and defensive coordinator. The Chiefs do not lack star power themselves, with the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Joe Thuney, Creed Humphrey, Chris Jones and Trent McDuffie. Those guys are known commodities, but there were several storylines about them and others that perhaps have turned out to be false. They were all proven to be incorrect last Sunday against Buffalo, so let's dive in to see what we were wrong about and hopefully continue to be wrong about on February 9th.
