The Kansas City Chiefs have made their splashy free-agent additions and have now shifted to the back of the crowd to watch the rest unfold. Free agency this year started with a bang across the first day of “legal tampering,” but quickly slowed down by the official start of free agency on Wednesday. Now that doesn’t mean there isn’t value to be found in this part of free agency, it just becomes a lot more about the perfect team fit.

With that in mind, let’s dive into one unsigned free agent at every position that could fit with and provide some value to the Chiefs!

Cornerback: Nate Hobbs | Green Bay Packers

Nate Hobbs was released by the Green Bay Packers and designated as a June 1st cut. Any team can still sign him right now, and he still would not count against the compensatory pick formula, which is a nice bonus. On the field, Hobbs was at his best in Las Vegas playing more as a slot corner than he was playing outside, like the Packers tried to make him. This led to his worst season in the NFL and ultimately his release. The Chiefs’ need for a nickel corner that can be fast, physical, and a willing run defender is obvious, and Hobbs’ return to the AFC West could make sense.

Linebacker: Jahlani Tavai | New England Patriots

Jahlani Tavai is coming off his least impactful year in some time under Terrell Williams’ defense for the Patriots. Still, he was a competent snap eater when on the field, and the hope would be to tap into some of the thumping and blitzing prowess he had shown in previous seasons. Tavai had recorded double-digit pressures the previous two years but saw his blitz rate drop under a new regime. The Chiefs lost starting SAM and defensive weapon Leo Chenal to free agency and could be looking for a similar skill set to fill out the LB room. Tavai could play in that same kind of role for the Chiefs.

Defensive Tackle: Jonathan Allen | Minnesota Vikings
