Pay Heed: Kansas basketball's season is on life support
Nick Springer is joined by Kansas City Star KU beat writer Shreyas Laddha to break down Kansas basketball's devastating road loss against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Kansas has fallen to 1-2 in Big 12 play and 11-5 on the season after dropping a game to West Virginia, 86-75. Although they were on the road, the Jayhawks were 3.5-point favorites over the Mountaineers, and they are now a miraculous comeback over TCU away from being 0-3 in the conference.
KU held a lead until about halfway through the second half and led by as many as eight points at one point. The Mountaineers shooting 42 percent from beyond the arc and out-rebounding the Jayhawks was too much to overcome as the game moved along.
No one on the Jayhawks tallied more than six rebounds or four assists in the matchup on Saturday. The normal staples in the lineup, Flory Bidunga and Melvin Council Jr. were limited to a combined 19 points as well.
Star freshman Darryn Peterson continued to lead the way in his 31 minutes played against West Virginia. Despite going 3-for-9 from three, he led the team in points and rebounds with 23 and six.
It does not get any easier for Kansas, who will host No. 3 Iowa State. The Cyclones are 16-0 to start the season. The guys discuss their top takeaways from the West Virginia game, where KU goes from here, and more.
