This is the 150th article I have had the privilege of writing for KCSN, and I absolutely love that I get to write it about a blowout win against a division opponent. Life is beautiful, people.
The Chiefs just blew out the Raiders 31-0, and if we’re being honest, it wasn’t even that close. The Chiefs chose to go for it on 4th down inside the 10 in the 4th quarter, with the starting offense out, and continued to just run it up the gut. Turnover on downs. They weren’t trying to score. They were just running out the clock. It could have been 34 easily with just a field goal, and 38 with a decent offensive play by the backups. Reid wasn’t interested in running up the score even more.
It’s the Raiders. If I’m being honest, I wanted the Chiefs to have a literally perfect game, where every drive ended in a touchdown. Sadly, my dream ended with Mahomes final possession, where they ended their drive at the Raiders 20 yard line with an incompletion to Brown, and settled for a field goal to make it 31-0. The Chiefs backups went in after this drive with 8 seconds left in the 3rd quarter, and punted 3 times and turned it over on downs once.
This game was really fun. That has been a theme of the Chiefs this season. They struggled coming out the gate this season, with Worthy getting injured 3 offensive plays into the season. The first two and a half games were a slog. Starting in the second half of the Giants game in week 3, this offense has been an utter blast to watch. The Chiefs are now 4-3, over 0.500 for the first time this season. Their three losses are by a combined 12 points. Each loss was by 6 points or less.
