Spreadsheet Warriors: Texans
The Chiefs nine-year reign over the AFC West is over.
Disappointing.
That’s the only word I have for this season so far. I was incredibly excited to finally see the Chiefs’ offense with all its players healthy and on the field. Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Hollywood Brown, with Travis Kelce as the reliable veteran. Josh Simmons was going to shore up the offensive line, and the offense was finally going to look more like it did at the start of Mahomes’ career.
Instead, the Chiefs have a 6-7 record and are currently third in the division. Their offense has had some nice moments, but has come up short time and time again when it mattered most. In this most recent game, the Chiefs had five drives in the fourth quarter. Those drives ended in an interception, a turnover on downs, a turnover on downs, an interception, and the end of the game. In those five drives, they had 16 plays. They gained 43 total yards, 24 of which came on their final drive.
When it mattered, the Chiefs just haven’t had the juice to get it done this season.
