This has been an incredibly weird season in the NFL. No team is dominant. Every team has looked incredibly vulnerable multiple times this season. Did you know that even after being embarrassed by the Bills, the Chiefs are still the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl, per DraftKings? I am not going to run the numbers on this, but I would be willing to bet that it has at least been a very long time since a team that is ranked 8th in their conference, and who would miss the playoffs if they started today, has been the Super Bowl favorites.

Nothing about this season makes sense. Daniel Jones is a legitimate MVP candidate. Sam Darnold is leading the Seahawks to their best season since Russell Wilson. The Bills embarrassed the Chiefs, then got embarrassed by the Dolphins. The Broncos have won several games this season off 0.01% likelihood plays, similar to the Chiefs last year. The record for longest field goal was broken, and not in Mile High Stadium or by the Cowboys’ Brandon Aubrey.

The Chiefs are no exception to this. They started the season with two straight losses, then lost a third game in Week 4. That is the first 1-3 start they have had in the Andy Reid era. They lost their 2024 first-round WR at the very beginning of their Week 1 game. Their incredibly promising first-round left tackle this year just up and left the team for four weeks right before the start of the Lions game. He is back with the team now, and the whole situation has been kept very quiet and personal, in a way that is normally impossible in today’s information age.
