The KC Laboratory: Navigating the 2026 Chiefs Draft Chaos
Trade-Up Rumors, Andy Reid’s Traits, and the "Big George" Connection
In this high-energy “Draftmiss” edition of the KC Laboratory, hosts Kent Swanson, Matt Hamilton, and Matty Lane dive headfirst into the final week of speculation before the 2026 NFL Draft.
With the Kansas City Chiefs holding a massive war chest of draft capital, the conversation centers on one primary question: just how aggressive will Brett Veach be?
The crew breaks down the “smoke and mirrors” surrounding potential trade-ups. While moving into the top three for a superstar like Arvell Reese or running back Jeremiah Love feels like a “steep price,” the guys identify pick five or six as the realistic sweet spot. The target? Rueben Bain Jr., the heavy-handed edge rusher who fits the Chiefs’ developmental profile perfectly. They also touch on the “Big George” (George Karlaftis) effect, noting how successful defensive picks have emboldened the front office to take big swings on traits.
The laboratory also vents about the Spencer Fano rumors, dismissing the idea that Andy Reid’s friendship with Utah’s Kyle Whittingham will override schematic needs. Analyzing Reid’s recent presser, the hosts emphasize that “Big Red” prioritized arm length and core strength—two areas where Fano potentially falls short. Whether it’s a trade for a pass rusher or securing a sliding receiver like Jordyn Tyson, the message is clear: expect the Chiefs to be the ones driving the action this weekend.
Top Three Takeaways
The Arvell Reese Contingency: If the Chiefs make a massive jump into the top five, it is likely for Ohio State’s Arvell Reese, a “special” athlete whose youth and upside align with Veach’s long-term roster strategy.
Trait-Based Filtering: Despite social media buzz, the crew remains skeptical of offensive tackle Spencer Fano due to his 32-inch arms, noting that Andy Reid publicly listed arm length as a top-three requirement for the position.
The Bain/Bailey Debate: While David Bailey leads the national news cycle, the hosts are leaning toward Rueben Bain Jr. as the pick at nine, citing his superior hand technique and the specific “snot-bubbling” physicality the Chiefs’ defense currently craves.

Who among you really think Jaylon Moore is better than Jawaan Taylor at RT??? He's not even close and that's even with the constant penalties Taylor was flagged for. PFF ranks him as a below average pass protector and marginally better run blocker. Something like 74th of 89 among OT. The rest of the Chiefs OL is good but NO defensive coach is going to overlook such a WEAK link NOT in post season for damn sure. Moore is a "so-so" SWING TACKLE not a starting RT. He alone WILL wreak the offense especially on 3rd and long and in the redzone.
Fano is not the answer and neither is Moore but Mauigoa, Miller, Iheanachor, even Tiernan are all better fits AND they are either RT or experienced at RT. Mauigoa and Miller are RD 1 talents while Iheanachor and Tiernan are RD 2 and 3 respectively. The thinnest position groups in 2026 are OT and WR because there are 2 to 4 players in each that fill KC-specific needs whereas ED (10) ,CB(6+),DT(7+),RB(8) have deeper depth.
