The Super Bowl That Changes Everything
A third ring in the Mahomes era means a lot to the legacy and momentum of the newly minted dynasty
Watching a Super Bowl with your team in it is one of the best and worst experiences. It’s hard to fully enjoy, process, and appreciate the moment. I didn’t enjoy LIV. The anxiety of never experiencing a Super Bowl trumped any ability to fully take the game in. Last night, I found myself flustered and a little disoriented on KCSN’s Postgame Show. It’s hard to process what you just experienced knowing the gravity of the moment. That doesn’t go away.
Every Super Bowl is special in its own way. People’s favorite Super Bowl might just simply always be the last one. There are defining qualities for every championship the Chiefs have achieved to this point. The first one, the first one without Tyreek, and now this.
It’s hard not to hold onto this moment fondly considering this particular journey. It’s hard not to believe this is the most defining moment for this organization. Things did not go as expected this year. The offense was mortal for a large stretch of the year. There was belief that the Chiefs had enough at wide receiver to maintain their high standards offensively. The pair of receivers being sold as their top two options — Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney — did not see the field on offense either due to being inactive or coaches decision.
The Chiefs rebuilt their way to a ring last year. If that was the snowball, this was the avalanche. The big picture outlook for this team, this quarterback has changed drastically with the back-to-backs. There will be time for us to fully process this, but here’s a head start on what this third ring means.
