Three keys to the game for the Chiefs against the Texans

This is the sandwiched game between the three games in 11 days. It looks like Mahomes and Hollywood will be out there after some questions about that. Here are three keys to securing a 14th win.

It feels like it has been an eternity since the Kansas City Chiefs last took the field even though it has been just three days in between. After quarterback Carson Wentz finished the game against the Cleveland Browns, it was speculated that he would start the upcoming Saturday game against the Houston Texans.

After taking on a final brutal hit against the Browns front where quarterback Patrick Mahomes was hit high and low, he was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain. Many national pundits went as far as calling him week-to-week. With Kansas City needing to win just two out of their last three games to secure the AFC’s one seed, it made some sense to start Wentz until Mahomes absolutely had to play. With the way the offensive line has played and the pass rush that the Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos possess, the thought was to let Mahomes heel up until that ankle gets closer to 100 percent.

Mahomes is Mahomes, though, and since Sunday afternoon there has been a six to six-and-a-half-point swing in the betting markets after Mahomes has logged two full participant practices. At one point they were 2.5-point dogs at home and currently, they are 3.5-point favorites. It is now hard to imagine a world where QB-one does not run out of that tunnel ready to secure his 14th win of the season.

Mahomes essentially mentioned this week that if they can win two games, they can secure a first-round bye and that is when the rest can come. To make matters better, Hollywood Brown has also logged two full participant practices, so I am sure Mahomes is chomping at the bit to suit up with number five and get this offense-ready rock for the playoffs with his newly added weapon.
