Week One Reactions from Training Camp

Young players are the stars of camp.

It feels good to be talking about football again. The first few days of full team camp are in the books. The pads will come on Monday, and that will be the true test of where players are in the process.

That doesn’t mean the ramp-up period hasn’t brought some interesting storylines into the mix. There are some emerging stories and surprises coming out of training camp. Rookies are getting significant opportunities early on to prove themselves with the first team.

Here are early reactions from the first week of Chiefs training camp.

Cyrus Allen?!

It’s early, but it’s getting difficult to deny the hype surrounding Cyrus Allen. He’s already getting several reps with the first-team offense and Patrick Mahomes. Beyond that, however, he’s making the most of his chances.

There is a long way to go. The pads aren’t even on. But the arrow is certainly pointing up on the former Cincinnati Bearcat.

The two highlight plays he made in camp today (a one-handed grab and a contested catch on the sideline) are massive moments early on in camp. It’s not just that Allen came down with two wildly impressive catches. The fact that Patrick Mahomes trusts him enough to make them is a story in and of itself.
