The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to see star DT Chris Jones suit up and play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2. He missed the Week 1 game against the Detroit Lions due to a contract-related holdout, but after agreeing to a new deal and practicing all week, he’s ready for his first action of the year.
“It’s great, man, he’s a force,” Chiefs DE Mike Danna said on Friday. “Getting that piece back to the puzzle, you know it’s a great piece. We’re excited to have him back, and we’re looking forward to playing our tails off and you know getting him back in the rotation.”
While Danna recognizes that many members of the defensive line stepped up in Chris Jones’ absence, he also considers that Jones’ presence will help everyone do better moving forward.
“He’s a character off the field,” Danna said. “He’s a great guy, a great teammate, a leader in the locker room. Someone that you can look to that has information that can help you. On the field, it’s great. (He) opens it up for everybody. You’ve got another dynamic piece on the field that can make plays with the best of them.
“It’s great to have him back.”
Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes ready to turn the page vs. Jaguars in Week 2
Trevor Lawrence, gunslinger:
We’ve heard the term “gunslinger” used for Patrick Mahomes before, but one Chiefs defender also feels it represents the Jaguars’ QB well.
“Trevor Lawrence is a gunslinger, man,” Chiefs DE Mike Danna said. “He’s up there with the top of the QB’s that (really) are throwing that ball. He can use his feet, make plays, extend plays, he’s got a great arm. The running backs are great, so he’s got a great unit behind him. He’s a great football player, great, smart, looking forward to playing him. He’s a hell of a player. (He’s a) Gunslinger who can throw the rock anywhere, so (he’s) an exciting football player.”
The defense will have their hands full defending every blade of grass on Sunday.
