The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Arizona Cardinals 38-10 in their second pre-season game and that means it’s time to dive through the film and figure out what we learned. It’s always a difficult task with pre-season games because teams aren’t always focused on winning or playing their best players.

Andy Reid and the Chiefs are one of the teams that fall heavily into this category of using the pre-season for a lot more than simply winning the game. There stress tests being put on players and units, new players being given opportunities to shine, or specific areas of the game that are being worked on. On the outside it’s nearly impossible to know what they team is trying to work on but some tidbits always become clear.

Let’s focus on 5 things we learned from this latest pre-season game and how it may translate to the regular season for the Chiefs. From the new additions along the offensive line, to the Chiefs’ skill positions, and to some interesting position battles popping up on the defensive side of the ball... let’s get into it.

5 Things We Learned

  1. New Tackles and Could Add Flexibility to the Offense

Over the past few seasons the Chiefs’ offense has been partially limited in terms of scheme and design due to their OT play. The play wasn’t always consistent but even more prevalent has been the lack of trust for the OTs to live on an island as blockers on passing downs. The Chiefs brought in two new OTs this season to not only improve the play of the position but also help the design of the offense.
