Who Makes the Cut?

On Tuesday, August 26th, at 4 pm Eastern time, 2 pm Arrowhead time, the Kansas City Chiefs will have to cut their 90-man roster down to just 53 players. Those players who made the team will rejoice, while the 37 players who were cut will have to settle for hoping to land on the team’s practice squad, or that another team might pick them up off waivers.

It’s always a hard day for the roster bubble guys. They’ve worked so hard to make the team, to get a chance to prove themselves. But the math is brutal and absolute. Perhaps even harder than getting cut on Tuesday, is getting cut by the team you though you made, after the team sees another player from someone else’s cut downs that they want, and claim him. Imagine you make the team on Tuesday, but the team succeeds in claiming another player off waivers, and you end up cut just a few days after you made it. Brutal.
