The Film Room series continues as we draw nearer and nearer to the NFL Draft. We are officially in the month of April, and the draft is right around the corner, so let’s continue to dig through some of these Film Rooms, looking at potential picks at pick 9 for the Kansas City Chiefs.
The first Film Rooms have been on the offensive side of the ball, looking at wide receivers Carnell Tate and Jordyn Tyson; this time, we are moving to the defense. Rueben Bain Jr., the defensive end out of Miami, is up first.
The KCSN Draft Guide is available for pre-order! A Chiefs-specific book with detailed analysis, profiles of hundreds of prospects, player comps, a Chiefs draft pick trade chart, scheme fit analysis, and more! The book release April 6th!
Fun sneak peek for the KCSN Draft Guide: Rueben Bain Jr. is the second-highest-graded player in the draft guide, releasing in a week!
Rueben Bain Jr. | Defensive End | Miami
6’2” 263lbs
Strengths:
Explosive athlete: Rueben Bain Jr. is an explosive mover both off the line of scrimmage and into contact. When he fires out of his stance, there is no one in this draft class who matches his first step in terms of timing, urgency, and distance covered getting into his rush plan. He carries that same explosive movement pattern into contact, whether it’s attacking the blocker’s chest or hands.
Counter plan: He has a plan when rushing the passer and a contingency plan if his first one fails. As powerful and strong as he is, he can always default to a power/bull rush if his first move fails, but that’s not his only move. He has inside counters, outside counters, and adjusts his rush attack mid-rush stem when he sees a blocker has cut off his angle. This is especially worth noting for a player that does have short arms in that he knows how to counter blockers who try to use that against him.
