With the NFL Draft exactly one week out, it’s time to get our last Film Room video on the board and look at one more potential selection for the Kansas City Chiefs at pick 9. This week, we are continuing the wide receiver trend and going on a deep dive into USC’s Makai Lemon. Lemon joins Carnell Tate and Jordyn Tyson as the other WRs we’ve looked at leading up to this draft, along with EDGE rusher Rueben Bain Jr.
Lemon is one of the more controversial wide receivers at the top of this class because of his size and athletic profile, but I’m going to do my best to explain why he’s my WR1 in this class and a great fit for the Chiefs. As always, we’ll acknowledge some areas that need to be improved upon at the next level, talk about his fit in Kansas City, and where they likely have to target him in the upcoming draft!

Strengths:
Elite hands: Makai Lemon and Carnell Tate have some of the best hands not only in this draft class but in recent ones. Lemon’s technique for catching the football is nearly perfect regardless of the location of the throw, the speed at which he’s moving, or his surroundings, and that’s a rare skill to have. He is hands down the best receiver in this class, catching the football in traffic with bodies around him. He is more than capable of elevating or boxing out defenders for 50/50 passes as well, but it’s his ability to catch the ball like he’s playing in the back yard, despite running full speed into or between multiple defenders, that stands out.
